House Repairs

My husband and I are grateful that we own our home. But it seems that there is always something that needs to be fixed, repaired, replaced or added to the house. It's difficult to trust contractors out of the book. When we were engaged we bought my childhood home from my mother and did massive repairs. We gutted the entire house. New electrical, plumbing, windows, heating, roof, tore up the ceiling, broke walls to make bigger rooms, demolished existing walls to add insulation. It was a huge stressful mess. It's 5 years later and I am still paying debt even after a refinance. I love our home, but we mostly repaired the interior of the house. We still have a basement that floods, siding to be repaired. We need a solid fence to replace the old one, masonry work on the porch and driveway and landscaping for the backyard. I have to look for low cost effective ways to get a things fixed but refuse to compromise on quality and good aesthetics.
